Planning a Video Game

Planning is the most critical part of the development of a game, The method and the origins from which each game will grow.

At the planning stage, the most fundamental questions will have to be answered, such as:

  • What kind of video game are we producing?
  • What characters will be in?
  • Is it 2D or 3D?
  • What are some of the essential features it must have?
  • Who is our target audience?
  • Which platform are we building this on?

This might not seem like it, but one of the toughest aspects of game development is to ideating a video game. Much of the time, money and energy expended on making video games was spent during the development process. It also appears to be one of the most difficult phases in the development of video games.

The months leading up to the planned game launch date are usually spent knocking down huge backlogs of glitches – some old, some new ones discovered at the development level. For games with several bugs, the studio can build a list of bugs to eliminate. In addition to bug framing, developers will typically clean the game as much as possible before it launches.

If the game is clean from the bug, it’s time for it to be launched and released.


Post-launch is one of the most thrilling moments in any game studio. Months of hard work have now paid off and video game sales are rolling in. But even now, a few months during the post-launch period developers are still struggling with some bugs and spent the time finding and squashing bugs.

Another part of the post-launch process is to include daily app updates for the game. These updates are based on some input from the users, new character launching, and new levels.

It’s also necessary to note that no two games are identical, even from the same studio. Roadblocks are inevitable in game development, milestones will be met, and resources will have their limits. That’s the nature of the industry.
